Scots mums will get more maternity pay under new budget plans set to be announced by the UK Government this week. At the moment maternity and paternity leave starts the day after the baby is born - even if the child is permature.
The current law means parents will often spend weeks and even months of their maternity leave in hospital, before they can take their baby home, but by then it is often time for them to return to work.
Scots parents say there needs to be a change in the law. Dad-of-one Lyle Tomlinson was left feeling 'robbed' of time with his son Theo who was born at 27 weeks, weighing just 1lb 9oz.
