A Paisley thug who stole a van and then dangerously drove it on the opposing carriageway of a busy Renfrewshire road in a 10-mile cop chase has avoided jail.

Jordan Porter’s thuggish spree in April involved him stealing a van and then, two days later, breaking a glass window at My Motel in Blackhall Street, Paisley, while carrying a knife.Cops were contacted and Porter of Thrushcraig Crescent drove down the A737 at speed, on the opposing carriageway, trying to escape police. The 29-year-old also admitted he had no insurance when he dangerously drove the vehicle and that all of the offences were committed while he was already subject to a court order made at the town’s sheriff court.

Procurator fiscal depute Michael Cunningham told Paisley Sheriff Court on April 19, Porter stole a Transit van from outside of a property in the town’s Hunterhill Road.

He explained: “On April 22, a witness working at My Motel in Paisley observed the accused attend in the stolen vehicle.“The accused rolled down the window and spoke to a male and the conversation got heated which resulted in the male going into My Motel.Renfrewshire Live, the new free app dedicated to bringing you around the clock breaking news, is now available to download.Powered by the Paisley Daily Express, Renfrewshire Live is your go-to source for news, features and sport with live coverage provided direct to the app, seven days a week. The dedicated team of experienced journalists, responsible for the publication of the award-winning Express, will focus on breaking news, day and night, across Renfrewshire’s towns and villages. There is also a dedicated St Mirren section that will follow every kick of the ball with the Buddies.
