A kindhearted schoolgirl made sure a 101-year-old had a birthday to remember.Eva Wilson’s mum Louise told her about Edna Clayton who’d celebrated her 100th birthday last January without receiving a single card.Staff at the care home where she lives put out an appeal for people to send her cards this year. But P6 pupil Eva took it one step further but telling her headteacher at Bushes Primary.

Craig McCrorie, about Edna and urging her fellow pupils to create cards for her.She also spent her own money buying her a mug, which she then personalised, and a gift bag. Then together with Louise, dad Gary and little brother Parker, they visited the care home and met Edna to hand everything over in person.Louise said: “I’d seen the article on the BBC website and told Eva about it.“I lost my gran Jean Thomson, Eva’s great-gran, last year and she was really close to her.

She’s also close to her other gran, Nora Hendry, and I think she understands the difference a wee bit of kindness can make.“Honestly I’d planned to get a card for Eva to send but she took the idea and ran with it!“She said she was going to speak to Mr McCrorie and tell all her friends to make cards.

In the end we had 94 cards which the children made themselves.”Don't miss the latest headlines from around Renfrewshire.
