Paddy McGuinness to get staggering £3m charity donation from billionaire after gruelling bike ride

Paddy McGuiness has received a staggeringly generous pledge from Scotland’s first self-made billionaire after completing his Children in Need bike ride.The comedian cycled 300 miles from Wrexham AFC in Wales to Glasgow in Scotland over five days on a Raleigh Chopper, and described himself as "in bits, physically and emotionally” as he neared the end today.The Hunter Foundation, set up by entrepreneur Sir Tom Hunter, surprised Paddy this morning and pledged to match the funds raised by the Bolton-born presenter, up to £3million.

With the Phoenix Nights star having raised around £7m already, the BBC's Children in Need is likely to receive a hefty cheque for the full £3m.

Paddy, 51, undertook the Radio 2 Ultra Endurance Cycle Challenge on his dream childhood bike, a Raleigh Chopper, which was painted in the colours of the charity’s bear mascot, Pudsey.

As he set off from East Kilbride to arrive at the BBC Scotland's Pacific Quay offices at around 10.30am this morning, billionaire Sir Tom was there to watch him.
