St Louis Blues may have won little on the track, but to his owner he was one in a million. On a little smallholding in Gloucestershire, the racehorse lived to the grand old age of 35- and was given a birthday party every year.
He belonged to Tracy Heathfield, who used to ride him every day when he was in training with John Edwards at Ross-On-Wye. After he was retired in 1991 due to injury, at the age of just six, he was gifted to her by the yard.
He lived there happily in an old barn for the next 29 years- strolling in and out of his yearly gathering as his connections celebrated his special day. "Blue had a party every year," said Tracy. "He would come out onto the lawn while we had a buffet and drank Pimm's. "He knew it was his birthday.
