Owen Teague has landed a lead role in the upcoming Planet of the Apes movie. 20th Century Studios, which is now owned by Disney, is working on a new installment of the iconic franchise and Owen will be playing the lead primate, according to Deadline. Wes Ball, who directed the Maze Runner movies, will be directing the upcoming movie and the studio hopes to begin production by the end of the year. While the search remains for the main human role, Teague wowed execs with his screen tests and was offered the role in recent weeks,” Deadline reported.
The most recent Planet of the Apes movies featured Andy Serkis in a motion-capture performance as Caesar, the leader of the apes. Owen is best known for playing one of the bullies in the recent It movies and he also appeared in the Paramount+ limited series The Stand.
