Outlander star unrecognisable from role in famous soap more than two decades ago

Tobias Menzies is a key player in the Outlander world for his portrayal of Frank Randall. However with the actor also doubling as Black Jack Randall through the stones, fans love to hate him.Aside from his role in the Starz hit drama, which is based on Diana Gabaldon's book franchise, the English actor also plays the role of Prince Philip in the third and fourth seasons of Netflix's The Crown.He is also known for being part of other major shows including Game of Thrones, Made in Oslo and his recent appearance in 2024 television thriller series Manhunt.

Before any of this, the 50-year-old had appeared in BBC's Casualty. Following on from a one-off appearance in Midsomer Murders as Jack Dorset in 2000, the Express reports the actor had an 11-episode story arc in the medical drama surrounding Holby City.Aged only 24 at the time, he of course looked remarkably different in his role on the BBC soap as Frank Gallagher in 1998.

His portrayal, ironically also cast as Frank in Casualty, saw him portray the son of clinical director Max Gallagher who had a heroin addiction and kept causing problems for his dad.
