Outlander star Diarmaid Murtagh has been cast in The Tourist season two as the show began filming in Dublin this week. Diarmaid, 40, is best known for his role as Buck MacKenzie in the hit Starz franchise.
The Irish actor, who also plays Leif in the historical drama Vikings, is joined by Industry star Conor MacNeill, as well as returning cast members Jamie Dornan and Danielle MacDonald More new faces featuring in the BBC drama include Olwen Fouéré, Francis Magee, Mark McKenna, and Nessa Matthews.
Dornan and MacDonald’s characters, Elliot and Helen, will travel to Ireland to try and rediscover his roots and jog his memory following their adventure in the Australian outback.The synopsis for the season reads: "They’re dragged into the dangerous whirlwind of his past life and are confronted by friends and foes both old and new, including Niamh Cassidy (Fouéré) and the McDonnell family – Donal (Murtagh), Orla (Matthews), Fergal (McKenna), and Frank (Magee)."It continues: "Detective Ruairi Slater (MacNeill) becomes embroiled in the crossfire between the McDonnells and the Cassidys as the secrets of the family rivalry unravel."Writers Harry and Jack Williams explained that they were "so excited" to take Elliot and Helen to Ireland, and teased that they will "meet a host of dark and offbeat new characters".Lindsay Salt, BBC director of Drama, added: “I could not be happier to welcome the phenomenon that is ‘The Tourist’ back to BBC One and iPlayer.
