Joaquin Phoenix, Brad Pitt and Renée Zellweger, will present the awards, and speeches are encouraged – though nominees have been asked to "read the room" when accepting awards.
This year's awards are notable for their diversity: Chinese-American Chloé Zhao's Nomadland and Korean Lee Isaac Chung's Minari are in contention for Best Picture, while Emerald Fennell’s spiky, #MeToo thriller Promising Young Woman is also expected to do well and Viola Davis is strongly tipped for Best Actress for her role in Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom.
It's also a good year for British talent, from Anthony Hopkins in The Father to Gary Oldman in Mank and Daniel Kaluuya in Judas and the Black Messiah.
