UPDATE: Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer now has an official release date in Japan, with Universal’s local distribution partner Bitters End setting March 29 for the film to open in cinemas there.
In December (see below), it was announced by Bitters End (which has previously worked with such Universal titles as Darkest Hour and Licorice Pizza), that Oppenheimer would be released in Japan “following months of thoughtful dialogue associated with the subject matter and acknowledging the particular sensitivity for us Japanese.” At the time, it did not specify a date, but has now confirmed the late-March release.
The epic biographical thriller on Tuesday scored a leading 13 Oscar nominations including Best Picture, Director, Actor, Supporting Actor and Actress, Adapted Screenplay, Cinematography, Editing and more.
It will go out in Japan after the Academy Awards unspool on March 10. Oppenheimer to date has grossed $953M worldwide. PREVIOUS, December 6, 2023: Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer has been confirmed for a theatrical release in Japan.
