'Only Murders in the Building' Stars Say They Were 'Pleasantly Shocked' By the Season 2 Killer

Selena Gomez, Steve Martin and Martin Short are teasing some new info about Only Murders in the Building season 2.

In a new interview with The Wrap, the trio discussed the forthcoming season of the Hulu series, as well as what they thought about its big reveal. Click inside to read more… “It’s always difficult to balance [everything] because you’re in a serious crime story, and then you wonder how big the comedy can get,” Steve told the outlet. “And hopefully the editors and director guide you to the right degree of performance.” Selena agreed, adding that the writers and producers “a playground to just go and be who we want to be,” and noting that the cast feels “lucky” to have that kind of control.

She went on to say that she was “pleasantly shocked” by the reveal of the killer’s identity. This season also finds Oliver’s obsession with dips deepening, used as a way to explore Martin Short‘s character’s origin story. Martin noted that the character trait was “tied to Oliver’s difficult financial days” and added that he didn’t “care about dips, personally,” often using “oatmeal or something fake” while filming.

Oppositely, Selena felt a deeper her connection to her character, whose background gets fleshed out over the season. “I can’t help but maybe relate to [Mabel] in a way where I do feel a deep connection to my family and I had to move away from my family to do work,” she said.
