A woman has opened up about the moment she realised she had dementia. Gail was diagnosed with young onset Alzheimer's aged 54 in 2019 after sitting down and discussing the condition with her doctor, BristolLive reports.

She says she has "good days" and "bad days" but has since discovered a passion for the "small things in life". It comes as Birds of a Feather star Pauline Quirke's husband Steven Sheen announced the star had dementia.

Her close friend, Maurice Gran, who co-created the sitcom with Laurence Marks, now says Pauline has been struggling to identify her friends and family. "Since the diagnosis, her condition has gathered pace," says Maurice. "She's still only 65 so your heart goes out to her.

Initially, she felt she was beginning to lose her grip. Now, we understand she struggles to identify members of her own family." Steven announced that Pauline, who has also starred in shows such as Emmerdale, Broadchurch, and The Sculptress, was diagnosed with dementia in 2021.
