A person was taken to hospital after a double decker bus crashed into scaffolding at Tameside Hospital. Fire crews were called to the scene at around 6pm on Tuesday (March 22).

According to an eyewitness, the side entrance of the hospital was hit by the bus and was then taped off as fire crews dealt with the incident.

The Stagecoach bus, which was pictured with a smashed window on its upper floor, appeared to hit the scaffolding outside the Hartshead Building at the site.

The junction of Hartshead Close, one of the small roads within the hospital grounds, was closed off at Fountain Street. The bus stop outside the entrance was then out of use as the emergency services worked to make the scene safe.
