Daniel Wiffen's recovery seems to be on track following his hospital dash in Paris over the weekend.The 23 year old sportsman - who secured a gold and bronze medal during the Olympics - found himself in a medical emergency shortly after taking a dip in the French city's River Seine, missing the Olympics Closing Ceremony as he headed to hospital.

Now, his dad Jonathan has provided an update about Daniel's health on Tuesday, confirming that his son had gone straight to bed after arriving home from Dublin's Monday homecoming celebrations. "He's a lot better now," Jonathan reported on RTE's Morning Ireland. "He's up and about this morning, he's eating and drinking so he's a lot better, but it'll take a few days to get over it I think." At the Games in Paris, the Irish swimmer dazzled by capturing gold in the 800m freestyle at La Defense Arena and scoring a bronze in the 1500m freestyle, a first Olympic medal hall for him.

Daniel didn't just win; he made national history as he became the inaugural Irish man to grab an Olympic gold in the pool, which led to his nomination to hold high the Irish flag during the closing ceremony at the Stade de France on Sunday (August 11).
