Wanderers for much of the following decade which spanned playing in the Premier League, Championship and League One. During that time, Wheater turned out more than 230 times for Wanderers and scored 16 goals.
He departed the club last summer and later signed for Oldham, a team Bolton will come up against in League Two this season. He signed for the Latics on a one-year deal with an option of a second year.He turned out a total of 35 times for Oldham last season in all competitions in a season which was curtailed in light of the coronavirus pandemic.The Latics ended the campaign in 19th when the table was decided on a points per game basis.Wheater has been involved in pre-season training with the Latics, but is yet to play a competitive game.
