Steven J. Horowitz Senior Music Writer Nonesuch Records is celebrating its 60th birthday in a big way. Founded in 1964, the label has lined up several activations to honor the milestone and carry it through 2024.
The anniversary will include activations at Knoxville, Tenn.’s Big Ears Festival, a partnership with Vinyl Me, Please for reissues, playlists, video content, and Nonesuch merchandising.
First up will be Nonesuch’s programming slate at Big Ears, taking place from March 21-24. The event will feature 15 current and past artists signed to the label performing at various venues including Rhiannon Giddens, Tyondai Braxton, Hurray for the Riff Raff, Kronos Quartet, Brad Mehldau, Laurie Anderson, Sam Amidon, Darcy James Argue’s Secret Society, Mary Halvorson, Robin Holcomb, Wayne Horvitz, Ringdown, Davónte Tines, Molly Tuttle & Golden Highway, and Yasmin Williams.
Nonesuch has also partnered with Vinyl Me, Please for The Paragon Series, which sees 12 reissues from acts including The Black Keys, Stephen Sondheim, Philip Glass and more.
