Never Mind the Buzzcocks is back for more musical mayhem, as Greg Davies and his riotous co-stars return for a third series on Sky.
For team captain Noel Fielding, who has been with the show since its BBC Two days, the new episodes mark his eighth year on Buzzcocks – and the 50-year-old admits that he’s less wild on the pop panel now than he was in the noughties. “When I used to do it, I would get s**t-faced before the show and take the guests out to the Groucho Club and it would end up really messy,” he says. “Once, I hadn’t been to bed for a few days and when I came into the studio, Lorraine Kelly chased me around and spanked me over the desk with a wooden spoon.
At that point I didn’t know if I was dreaming or if that was real, but I knew I needed to go to bed.” While there’s less spanking involved in Sky’s reboot of the cult classic, it’s still as raucous as ever, with Greg, Noel and fellow co-panellists Daisy May Cooper and Jamali Maddix bringing the banter each week.
The long-running show has featured chart-topping icons from Pete Doherty to Ellie Goulding – and Greg’s childhood hero, Madness frontman Suggs. “When I was 11, I was obsessed by Madness and their album was the first I ever bought,” he says. “What I find endlessly crushing is that I meet these heroes and they’re not that much older than me.
