The Dutchman was ruthless in his decision to axe the 38-year-old, who eventually signed for Saudi Arabian side Al-Nassr after the World Cup.
The current international break is the first opportunity for players to come together after Qatar, with new Portugal boss Roberto Martinez deciding to include Ronaldo in his squad for Euro 2024 qualifiers against Liechtenstein and Luxembourg.
