A hi-tech iPhone and iPad app has been launched at Ninewells Hospital to help youngsters during visits. The technology is being used on Ward 30 - a specialist children’s surgical unit.

It is a one stop location that provides all the information needed by youngsters and their families before an operation or an anaesthetic.

Bosses hope the app will help to inform and prepare families, reduce anxiety, improve the experience and help children recover more quickly after a hospital visit and an operation.Unlike current sources of information like leaflets and posters, the app can be updated and adjusted immediately.Emma Jane Wells, Chair of Tayside Health Fund said: “Tayside Health Fund are delighted to be able to support the development of this app, which will provide families with information in a user-friendly way and enhance their experience of coming into hospital.”While Dr Grant Rodney, Consultant Children’s Anaesthetist, added: “We know that having an anaesthetic and an operation is an anxious and worrying time for children and their families.
