A schoolboy died after being struck by a tree as Storm Malik wreaked havoc on the UK this afternoon. The nine-year-old was badly injured in the incident, which took place at around 1pm.
Emergency services were called to the scene and the boy, and a man, were rushed to hospital. But the youngster was unable to recover from his injuries and sadly passed away.He is the second person to lose their life due to the storm, with a 60-year-old woman being killed in Aberdeen after also being hit by a tree.
Our sister title StokeOnTrentLive reported that mercy crews attended the incident in Hollington Road, Winnothdale, near Tean, in Staffordshire.
