Nicola Sturgeon warns 'power out over weekend' after Storm Malik crisis meeting

Families in the north east are expected to be hit with more power outages as Storm Malik continues to bater the nation. People in the area have been hit for the second time in just a few moths - after being left with no power for over a week following Storm Arwen at the end of last year.

After chairing a resilience meeting on the severe weather earlier today, Nicola Sturgeon said people in the north east would likely be without power over the weekend.

The First Minister stressed the importance of welfare support as Storm Corrie is likely to cause severe disruption as Storm Malik subsides.She also sent her deepest condolences to the family of a 60-year-old woman who tragically died after being hit by a tree in Aberdeen today.

Posting on Twitter, Sturgeon said: "Chaired @ scotgov resilience meeting on weather earlier. Impact of Storm # Malik is severe. "Power companies working hard to restore supply ASAP but many SSEN customers, esp in NE may be without power over weekend.
