NHS vaccine site bombarded by Brits desperate to book after second doses sped up

Brits have complained about long queues as the NHS vaccine website struggled to cope with a surge in demand after Boris Johnson said second doses were to be sped up for over 50s and the vulnerable.

In new rules, the second Covid jab will now be given eight weeks after the first in a bid to counter the impact of the Indian variant on people aged over 50, and those who would have less resistance to the virus.

But shortly after the announcement, people logging onto the NHS vaccine webpage were met by a message telling them they were in a queue.

It read: "You are in a queue. Lots of people are trying to book an appointment at the moment.” People shared the message on Twitter to voice their frustration and wrote how they were unable to book.
