There are now 6.7 million people across Great Britain receiving monthly financial support through Universal Credit, according to the latest statistics from the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP).
This means-tested benefit is designed to help people out of work or on a low income, with the cost of daily living. As unemployment levels rise (3.89%) and more people claim the benefit, guidance from the DWP explains that if you want to claim Universal Credit you must verify your identity.
In a new update, it has published a full list of ID documents new claimants will need to take with them to the Jobcentre if they are invited to attend a face-to-face interview.
DWP explained that verifying a claimant’s identity “helps to link the right person to the right claim and reduce identity fraud ”.
