New Romana pizza restaurant to open as Italian brothers' takeaway success leads to expansion

Ayr’s Romana pizza revolution is set to march on with the opening of a new restaurant. Italian twin brothers Mattia Piane and Jacopo Delle Piane are set to scale up their popular takeaway, The Pizzaioli, by bringing foodies a unique dining experience in the town.Taking over the empty Unity Grill spot on the Sandgate the two pizzaiolis (or pizza makers), originally from the Italian capital, are set to realise their dream.It comes just less than a year since they first swung open their doors to their takeaway on New Bridge Street – just 50m away from the new diner – where they have brought an authentic taste of the eternal city to Ayr.Now they are busy cultivating more mouth-watering additions to their menu including the famous thin Romana pizzas that have proved a huge hit with punters.Mattia told Ayrshire Live: “It’s been a great 10 months getting started and introducing our pizzas and The Pizzaioli experience.“The response that we had have from the people of Ayr and our customers has been amazing.“We’ve always wanted a restaurant, that has been our dream.

When the opportunity came up we just had to go and grab it.“The aim was always to get somewhere where we can offer the full experience.

The takeaway is nice, but people like to be in a sit in place, it is better for families and for kids.“We’ve got some exciting things in the works and we can’t wait to show customers.” One item menu which will be a key fixture will be arancini – fried risotto balls that haven been flying out the door of the takeaway.Mattia explained: “Since we first launched the arancini we could see there was a demand for it.“We started off using 500g of rice in one day, we’re up to 7kg of rice a week now.”The brothers unveiled their new plans last
