South Ayrshire's new police boss has told how bagging the role is the achievement of a "lifelong ambition".Chief Inspector Kevin Lammie, the region's area commander, takes up his post with almost three decades of experience in the force behind him.But landing the top gig at Ayr's King Street marks the first time in 26 years he will properly call the county both his place of work and play.Lammie, born and bred in Troon, knows all too well the challenges of policing the beat and insists he's relishing the chance to lead his team on the ground.He said: "I've spent 26 years driving up and down the M77 for a range of other posts, so it's a thrill to be sitting here now as someone who was born and brought up in South Ayrshire."From joining the
