New PIP face-to-face assessment update for first-time claimants and people due review this year

The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) has announced the number of Personal Independence Payment (PIP) face-to-face assessments will “increase towards Autumn 2025”.

This means people making a new claim for the disability benefit and existing claimants due an award review this year, could be assessed on paper, by phone, video call or in person.

Minister for Social Security and Disabilities, Sir Stephen Timms, made the comments in a written response earlier this week after shadow work and pensions secretary Helen Whately asked what steps the DWP is taking to “increase the number of Personal Independence Payments assessments that are conducted face-to-face”.

Sir Stephen explained t the Conservative MP that since July 2024, there has been no change in policy regarding assessing Personal Independence Payment (PIP) claims remotely”.
