New housing estate set for former railway cutting classed as ‘wildlife corridor’

Final plans for housing estate to be built on a disused railway cutting are to be decided this week, more than five years since they were first approved.

The plans for land Springfield Road, Kearsley are for 36 houses along one cul-de-sac on what was once a railway line. The site runs alongside the grounds of Kearsley Academy high school.

An outline application for the estate was refused by Bolton council’s planning committee in February, 2019. However, the application was approved later that year at appeal by the planning inspectorate.

This week, Bolton’s planning committee will consider final plans on the design and layout of the homes submitted by developers W.
