The National Entitlement Card (NEC) provides access to many public services across Scotland and gives people over 60 free bus travel.
The scheme provides free travel on registered local and long-distance bus services throughout Scotland, at any time of day for any number of journeys.
However, the same cannot be said for older people living in England who are only able to access free off-peak bus travel when they reach State Pension age, which is currently 66.
Last week, Liberal Democrat MP Sarah Green urged the Department for Transport if it would consider “amending the English National Concessionary Travel Scheme eligibility criteria to allow people to apply for a free bus pass at 60 years old”.
