A new ‘bus gate’ will be installed on Heaton Lane in Stockport town centre — meaning only buses, cyclists, and taxis will be able to access the road from today.
CCTV cameras will be installed by March 1 to enforce the new regulations, with rule-breakers in for a penalty charge notice.
Stockport Council says the move will make Heaton Lane more attractive to walkers and cyclists, and will also allow buses to be removed from Mersey Square. READ MORE: Martin Lewis issues council tax warning to anyone who has bought or rented property since 1993 “Once the new Interchange has been completed, Heaton Lane will have a primary role as an access to the hub utilising the new bridge over the River Mersey in the town centre,” a statement from SMBC said.
