After price increases in Canada and the U.S., Netflix is also rolling out price hikes for existing subscribers in the U.K. from this week.
The streaming giant, led by co-CEOs Reed Hastings and Ted Sarandos, upped the cost of its standard plan by £1 to£9.99 ($13.59)per month and its premium plan by £2 to £13.99 ($19.03) a month.
The basic plan's monthly price remained unchanged at £5.99 ($8.15). Existing members are notified by email, as well as within the Netflix app a month before the new prices are applied to them.
For new U.K. subscribers, the new pricing applied as of Dec. 10. "This year we’re spending over $1 billion in the U.K. on new, locally-made films, series and documentaries, helping to create thousands of jobs and showcasing.
