'Neighbours' Star Ian Smith Reveals Terminal Cancer Diagnosis

Ian Smith is revealing a terminal cancer diagnosis. The 85-year-old Australian soap legend, best known for playing Neighbours’ Harold Bishop on and off for five decades since 1987, has revealed he has a rare form of lung cancer.

In an interview with Australia’s 10 News First, the actor shared he has now filmed his final scenes for the soap due to the diagnosis. Keep reading to find out more… “I found out a few months back that I have cancer.

I have a very aggressive, non-fixable cancer. They expect me to die,” he said after being diagnosed with pulmonary pleomorphic carcinoma. “It isn’t just my last day in Neighbours, it’s my last day of work,” he added in an interview filmed on his final day on the set.

In the footage, the actor told his castmates and crew that he had lived the “most privileged life” and “met the most beautiful people” in his time on the show.
