Neighbours star Ryan Maloney, who plays Toadie ‘Toadfish’ Rebecchi, has announced he’s leaving the show after 30 years.Toadie was a character who was unlucky in love for a long time, but off-screen Ryan lives with his wife, Alison Hayward, who he married in 2003 and the couple have two children, Erin and Jack - who are now teenagers.
Last year, Alison and Ryan celebrated their 20th wedding anniversary. Previously, he said she was a huge support when Neighbours was axed in 2022. "Having something that’s been part of your life for 28 years – I’ve spent more of my life on Neighbours than off it," Ryan said. "It’s an interesting dynamic – from being famous to being nothing all of a sudden." The soap returned in 2023, and Ryan returned along with the main cast members.
On Thursday 27 July has quit the show - but he won’t be going far. Ryan won’t be going far though and plans to start directing Neighbours, like a few of his co-stars have done before including Scott Major (Lucas Fizgerald).
But there’s also another career Ryan has his eye on. He said: "My initial backup plan was [being] a commercial pilot. So I got my commercial pilot's licence and then, obviously, Covid - and now there's a bunch of really skilled pilots in the world who are out of work.
