Neighbours 'heartbroken' as fences installed in Hough End Fields reveal scale of development

Campaigners have told of their 'heartache' as fences installed in Hough End Fields showed the scale of a leisure centre development.

Work is set to begin to to build 3G pitches and a car park on the fields in Withington next month, subject to being given the green light by the council.

Campaigners believe the expansion contradicts Manchester City Council's environmental targets. It comes just weeks after protestors chanted 'shame on you' as councillors agreed to fund the £11.9m plans.
