NBC Orders Cheerleader Comedy Pilot From Liz Astrof, Jeff Astrof, ‘Cheer’ Alum Monica Aldama
variety.comJoe Otterson TV Reporter NBC has given out a pilot order to the single-cam project “Stumble.” The show is described as “A mockumentary about the ridiculously high stakes competitive world of junior college cheer.” The project was originally set up with a put pilot commitment at NBC in late 2024.
Jeff Astrof and Liz Astrof are writing and executive producing the pilot. Dana Honor is executive producing via Defining Eve Productions, with cheerleading coach Monica Aldama also executive producing.
Universal Television is the studio. Both Jeff and Liz Astrof, who are brother and sister, are veteran comedy writers and producers, but this marks the first time they have teamed up to create a series.
Jeff recently created the Starz series “Shining Vale” and previously co-created the NBC mockumentary series “Trial & Error.” His other credits include “The New Adventures of Old Christine,” “Grounded for Life,” and “Friends.” Liz recently worked on the ABC comedy “Not Dead Yet” and as a consulting producer on “Shining Vale” and “Trial & Error.” She previously created the Fox comedy series “Pivoting” and has also written for shows “2 Broke Girls,” “King of Queens,” and “Raising Hope.” Jeff Astrof is repped by CAA and Gendler, Kelly & Cunningham.
