Naya Rivera's Family Speaks Out After Settling Wrongful Death Lawsuit

Naya Rivera‘s family has privately settled a wrongful death lawsuit that was filed against Ventura County, where she tragically drowned in July 2020.

Online court records show that a settlement was filed on February 24 and a hearing on the matter is scheduled for March 16. Click inside to read more… Terms of the deal are not known, but a statement from Naya‘s family does reveal that her six-year-old son Josey will receive compensation. “Through this settlement, Josey will receive just compensation for having to endure the drowning of his beloved mother at Lake Piru,” the statement read (via E!

News). “Though the tragic loss of Josey’s mother can never truly be overcome, we are very pleased that the monetary settlement will significantly assist Josey with his life beyond this tragedy.” Naya was found dead on July 13, 2020, five days after she went missing while going boating on Lake Piru with her son Josey.

Her cause of death was determined to be drowning and it was ruled an accident. The lawsuit was filed by Josey and Naya‘s estate against the County of Ventura, United Water Conservation District and Parks and Recreation Management. Naya‘s ex-husband Ryan Dorsey and members of the Glee cast paid tribute to her on her 35th birthday in January.
