Nathan Aké’s summer plans could present Manchester City and Pep Guardiola with a major issue in the transfer window if he decides to move on in search of regular first-team football.
The Dutchman signed for the Blues in the summer of 2020 and was a part of a star-studded squad that won the Premier League title, a fourth-consecutive Carabao Cup and reached a club-first Champions League final last season.
Despite not being a regular fixture in the side, Aké has produced some big moments in his 20 months at the club – namely a dramatic clearance off the line against Arsenal on New Years’ Day. ALSO READ: Gundogan calm on Man City future but confirms no contract talks The 27-year-old has proven himself as a top-level central defender and there were no complaints from Blues fans when he was brought into the club to replace Eric Garcia – who joined FC Barcelona in 2020.
However, in nearly two full seasons, Aké has made only 32 appearances in all competitions and has failed to establish himself as a regular in the team.
