'My TV career is over' – Steph's Packed Lunch star quits after show's shock axe

Former Great British Bake Off champ and Strictly Come Dancing star, John Whaite, has declared that his "TV career is over" after Channel 4's show, Steph's Packed Lunch, was cancelled last week.

The 34 year old revealed on Instagram stories that he had been planning to step back from TV anyway, saying: "This is the truth, I was gonna leave TV this year anyway." John, who was a regular face on Steph's Packed Lunch, cooking meals for guests and stepping in as a presenter when needed, admitted he was "completely fine" with the show being axed.

He added: "I've had a great run, loved it, and I'll do the odd bit here and there but I need to focus my attention on business and my creativity, so that's where I am." He also added: "That's why I've been off Packed Lunch for a couple of weeks just to get my head in gear and I had just about come to the conclusion that I think my career in television is now done." John urged his fans to think about the hardworking team behind the scenes of the show.

He said they were an "amazing team who have made that show what it is". He expressed his sympathy for the team, saying they "have had the rug pulled out from under them".
