Ahead of World Adoption Day on 9 November, My Mum, Your Dad star Janey Smith has been reflecting on her own experience of being adopted as a very young baby.

Now 49, Janey says she's only been able to "address it and understand" the impact it has had on her, and influenced the way she behaves in her own relationships. "I’d say it’s only been in the last 10 years that I’ve properly addressed it and started telling people.

It’s funny in a way because my mum’s only 5ft tall and I’m 5ft 10in, so it must have been quite obvious. Even though I knew I was adopted, I didn’t fully understand what it all meant." In an exclusive chat with OK! , Janey also shares that she and Roger Hawes, who she met on My Mum, Your Dad last year, have also discussed fostering themselves - but would need to live together first. "I’ve said to him before that I’d love to foster," she shared. "I probably said it quite fleetingly but we’ve since done a few things with Action For Children charity to raise awareness.

We don’t officially live with each other and we don’t have a big enough house but, yes, I said I’d love to do it and he said he would too." Janey says she began having therapy three years ago and despite knowing about her adoption for as long as she can remember, experienced the "most expensive crying session ever".
