Valentine’s Day is often seen as a time for couples to focus on each other, but Heather Pearce, 31, and her husband Tom, 36, are doing things a little differently this year.

The pair, who are in an open relationship, share their lives with two other people—Heather has a boyfriend, and Tom has a girlfriend.

Together, they call themselves a polyamorous family. Typically, Heather and Tom would spend Valentine’s Day together. But this year, Heather is on a girls’ trip while Tom’s girlfriend is tied up with work, leaving Tom to celebrate the occasion with Heather’s boyfriend.

Heather explains: “I booked the trip before I realised it was over Valentine’s Day. So my husband and my boyfriend are heading out for a romantic dinner while I’m away.” Heather and Tom’s arrangement isn’t traditional, but they’ve found it works well for them, reports the Mirror.
