Music legend Jools Holland reveals unexpected prostate cancer diagnosis

Former Squeeze band member Jools Holland has shared for the first time that he’s been diagnosed with prostate cancer. Jools, 64, admitted that he had “no awareness of prostate cancer” before his diagnosis, and that he found out he had the disease following a routine blood test.The music legend also said he had “no symptoms” of it, and has decided to speak out about his diagnosis in a bid to raise awareness about prostate cancer.

With this in mind, Jools has teamed up with men’s health charity Prostate Cancer UK for a star-studded musical event titled Raise the Roof, where the likes of Paul Weller, Paloma Faith and Spice Girl Melanie C will take to the stage this summer.

NME Awards: Stars rock the red carpet in stylish outfits – from Leigh-Anne Pinnock to Lottie Moss View gallery Opening up about his own personal lack of awareness of prostate cancer, Jools told PA, as per the Mirror: “I had no awareness of prostate cancer, no symptoms that I noticed whatsoever until I was diagnosed following a routine blood test in 2014.Thankfully I was successfully treated, but if more people were aware of their risk and caught the disease early, then more lives would be saved.” Speaking about his Raise the Roof event, which will take place this June, he went on: “If I can bring people’s awareness to the facts of prostate cancer then I would certainly stand on top of my piano and shout about it because I think it’s really important.” “If Raise the Roof was able to achieve this and save one man’s life, it would be the best thing ever that would come out of this,” Jools added.
