A murder investigation has been launched after a woman was found dead in a block of flats in Ashton-under-Lyne this morning (August 25).
Soon after this was reported to the police a 51-year-old handed himself into a police station nearby, and has subsequently been arrested on suspicion of murder.
Residents living in the same block of flats described their confusion to the Manchester Evening News as they were asked to leave by officers around 9.30am this morning so investigations could be carried out.
Officers were first called just before 9.15am about the death of a woman in a flat on Manchester Road, with forensic investigations carried out throughout the day.
