Mum's fungal disease horror as doctors warn it could be part of new 'slowly evolving' epidemic

A woman has shared her experience of contracting an unusual fungal disease which could be part of a new global epidemic. According to the US Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the woman was infected by drug-resistant ringworm, also known as tinea.

The 28-year-old woman, who was pregnant, experienced grim symptoms which included rashes on her body. When the scaly rashes began to appear she sought medical attention, WalesOnline reports.

The ringworm was identified as Trichophyton indotineae, which is currently spreading through India and other parts of South Asia.
