A mum-of-eight has defended her decision to jet off to Spain solo after the Christmas holidays - saying the government has "forgotten" those on benefits and she needs a "break".
Marie Buchan, from Selly Oak, Birmingham, said she intends to spend Christmas with her children but will then fly to Alicante, where she's been invited on holiday.
The 39-year-old said she needs a break from her children, who she has had to take care of for "most of the year" as schools were shut due to the pandemic.
She said the government has helped local businesses and people who have been furloughed, but claimed no help was given to single parents on benefits like herself. "Government claimants like myself, a mum of eight, are forgotten," she told Metro.co.uk.
