Muireann O’Connell has urged women not to feel ashamed if they, like her, have received a HPV diagnosis. The Virgin Media Television star revealed on Instagram that she has tested positive for the virus, admitting she had ‘a little freak out’ when she received the news.

However, she feels lucky to have availed of the services of the CervicalCheck team who confirmed, after further tests, that no abnormal cell changes were detected. ‘When I received the call last month that I had HPV, I had a little freak out.

Then realised that most people will get some form of HPV in their lifetime and 9 out of 10 clear up within 2 years,’ she explained.
