'Much-loved' primary school headteacher and mum of two dies after short illness

Tributes have been paid to a 'much loved' headteacher from Wigan who died after a short illness. Catherine Morris was the head of Holy Rosary Catholic Primary School in Aintree.

It is with great shock that we share the devastating news that she passed away peacefully this afternoon, after a short illness.

As you can imagine, our whole school family are heartbroken. "We are letting you know this evening so you can share this news at home with your child, in the way you feel most appropriate for them. [The] school will be open as usual tomorrow and staff will do their absolute best to keep things as normal as possible, to support the children and answer any questions they have.
