The Mammy is back for another fun and festive episode as Agnes Brown returns with a Christmas cracker of a show.This year, all Mrs Brown wants is a nice peaceful day, but her family have other ideas, resulting in cooking chaos, a missing decoration and a surprise guest who has the potential to ruin Agnes’ quiet Christmas.

Mrs Brown’s Boys is now on its 12th festive special, which show creator Brendan O’Carroll, who also plays the matriarch, finds hard to believe. “My mother always said to me, ‘You’re such a smart kid, Brendan.

You’re either going to be Prime Minister or in prison,’” he laughs. “So I’m just delighted that I’m neither of those," continues Brendan "People say to me, ‘God, you must be living your dream’, but honestly, I am so far past my dreams – my cup runneth over, it really does.” One poignant moment in the Christmas episode involves Father Damien’s mother Maureen, whose character has Alzheimer’s, and was met “with absolute silence” from the audience. “I had been planning that moment for a few years,” reveals Brendan, 68. “But I didn’t know how to address something that’s so important in a comedy.

And the people I know with Alzheimer’s remember every detail of their childhood, but it’s their short-term memory that’s affected.
