Moviepass is possibly back. The service, which first launched in 2017 and provided customers with the ability to see a movie per day for $9.99 a month.
The service changed its subscription service, then filed for bankruptcy by early 2020 after running out of money. On Tuesday (March 16), a MoviePass website launched a countdown clock set to end on Monday (March 22) with the tagline “the movie is about to start.” According to Variety, the website was registered on February 7, 2021. Mitch Lowe, the former CEO of MoviePass, said in a statement: “I have no idea.
It has nothing to do with me.” Representatives also did not respond to request for comment. A rep for former chairman Ted Farnsworth said he is not connected to the project.
