Motherwell Volleyball Club net sponsorship deal due to family connection

A family connection has led to one of Scotland’s oldest volleyball clubs receiving a welcome cash injection.Motherwell Volleyball Club have been sponsored by Rutherglen-based Paintline, who are used to backing football teams, but have reached out to another sport for the first time.That’s good news for the 44-year-old club, which not only survived a loss of players and Covid restrictions, but increased its membership.Paintline director Scott McKinlay explained: “Although we have sponsored a few football teams, this is our first with a volleyball club.“In some ways it was overdue, as the family has a keen interest in the sport, as our cousin Carly McKinlay plays at the top level for Su Ragazzi VC and Scotland.“So we are well aware of the challenges of maintaining a minority sport like volleyball, and very impressed to find that the club was founded in 1980.“When we met the players we were blown away to discover that three of the original members – now in their 60s – still train with the club every week.”Managing director Kaye, Scott’s sister, added: “The ethos of the club echoes with our principles as a developing company, which has never forgotten its roots.“Paintline was formed in 2005 by our late father, and although it has grown to become one of the biggest industrial coating suppliers in the UK, we have retained our original Rutherglen base with a trade counter to meet local needs.”Long-serving player and coach Philip McGhee accepted new strips from Paintline and said: “After many years without a sponsor, the generous offer from Paintline means that once again we have an additional identity to the club.“Although the Scottish Volleyball Association no longer provides a platform to accommodate an experienced district
