Motherwell defender Stephen O'Donnell explains contract clause after 'settled' star penned Fir Park extension

Settled Stephen O’Donnell is delighted to extend his stay at Motherwell after penning a new two-year deal at Fir Park.The 32-year-old defender is closing in on 150 appearances in claret and amber and has revealed there is a clause in his contract that will require him to make a certain number of appearances next season for the second year of the deal to be triggered.However, the Wishaw ace is thrilled to be sticking around at his local side for a while longer and is ready to go when pre-season kicks off for the Steelmen on Tuesday, June 18.

He told Lanarkshire Live Sport : “Off the back of playing pretty much every game last season – I think the final game was the only one I didn’t appear in – I was hoping the club would want to keep me. “The deal is a year with clauses depending on playing X amount of games, which I am obviously hoping to do, so I’m really positive about it and I’m looking forward to the new season.“My family is really settled here, I’m settled and the manager seems to trust me so when the offer was there I was keen to get it done.“The fact he sees me in his plans and sees me as someone he wants to keep about the place is always a compliment.

I have been nothing but impressed by the manager since he came in and how he operates.“The conversations were more about where he sees me playing.
