St Johnstone were denied another three points by a last-gasp Motherwell leveller. The Perth side had taken the lead in the second half when Bevis Mugabi turned Matt Smith’s delicious delivery into his own net.
That looked to have been enough for Saints but, in the 90th minute, alert striker Mika Biereth was on the move in the box to plant a header into the net.Both teams had struggled to string two passes together in the opening half hour and the ball, it seemed, was spending most of its time being booted out for a throw-in.
There was an evident lack of composure all over the park and, not surprisingly, that meant chances were at a premium. As the rain tumbled down, this was grim viewing.
Tony Gallacher did force goalkeeper Liam Kelly to beat away a 21st minute cross from the left flank before Graham Carey picked up the scraps.
